When an agency and a Chinese environmental group collaborate you can visualize environmental impact of just about anything. In this installation a clever representation of disposable wooden chopsticks on the streets of downtown Shanghai in the shape of a tree.
According to the
China Environmental Protection Foundation, every year the Chinese consumes 45 billion pairs of disposable wooden chopsticks which equal around 25 million trees.
To raise awareness about the problem, the foundation went around Shanghai and gathered 30,000 pairs of used disposable chopsticks from the city's restaurants. They built a tree in a busy district of the city – and chopped it down.
